Does ne1 have a 56K Flex modem, and use Deltech as their ISP? I just
bought an Amjet 56K Flex internal modem yesterday. I installed, it with the
lastest Win95 drivers, and checked J-Mark's web page to make sure I have the
lastest BIOS, which I do. The modem is a PnP/Non-PnP hybrid. I set the Com
port, & IRQ using jumpers, and not the Plug n Pray feature. This modem is not
a Winmodem, and will support 386/486/Pentium class computers, so it works in
Real DOS as well.
My problem is that even though I connect at 46K everytime, about 2, or 3
min. into each session the data streams stops. It's like if the network
becomes lagged for about 15 to 20 sec., then it starts working fine again. It
does this about every 2 to 3 min. for about 15 to 20 sec. all the time. It
does it no matter what I'm doing online.
If I'm downloading it will start out with a CPS rate of 5300, after a few
minutes, it stops all together, the CPS rate then falls as it sits doing
nothing to around 3200 CPS. Then it starts back up again. It starts gaining
the CPS rate back, but before it can reach 5300 CPS again, it stops, & loses
even more CPS than the time before. Actually, it takes the same amount of
ime
to d/l a file with the 56K than it would with 33.6K. I have no real speed
increase.
Also. If I'm playing games such as Quake2, it plays ok, then when the
ata
stops, the little "phone socket" picture comes up in the corner of the screen
signaling that I'm losing data. The games freezes, and then after it starts
p
again, the movement of the game speeds up as if the data was being sent to
he
CPU in one large burst, then it cataches back up. If I was shot by someone
during the freeze up, I don't know untill it starts up again. This makes
playing impossible.
In DOS I play Descent through KaliDOS. When it does it then, all players
in the games drop out at once, and then return after the data starts up
gain.
This also sucks as well. Even in Chats, it seems that I can't get, or send a
message. when this happens. All the message. that people were typing during
my
data
freeze, comes scrolling out in one large burst after the data stream starts
p
again.
This doesn't seem to happen when I connect at 33.6 on their Sulpher line.
Does ne1 else have this type of problems, and does this sound like the modem
may be defective, or just trash quality. I have a 33.6 Amjet USR clone that
performs as well as a real USR, and is very good. I figured that I would get
the same quality from the 56K as well.
Thanks.
PS: Disregard the question about DelTech. I had copied & pasted this
message from a local BBS post I made to this BBS so I didn't have to retype
all that.
... "And we'll have fun, fun, fun..." What? A moderator? Never mind.
