WAYNE CHIRNSIDE wrote to JAMES BRADLEY, "Tap tap tap..." -> I just did something while trying to find the DVD on RH, -> and now, *neither* USB -> drive shows up. Hmm... I was all charged up to install -> the RH DVD bundled w/a -> book checked out from the library. /-: WC> Hmm. WC> dmesg | less doesn't show them? dmesg did tell me the UPS was still being considered there, (As a "Joystick" no less!) and that was what I unplugged to make room for the DVD. I'll have to check if the CDRW is there again. Come to think about it, the last time I used it was pre-RH w/Mandrake. -> Maybe the last W98 machine can read it. Maybe I *will* -> have to buy an IDE DVD -> drive after all. (Not really feeling like having TWO DVD -> drives in the farm.) WC> I'd be happy with one. WC> Perhaps I HAVE one. LOL! WC> H.P. Pavilion's manual clearly states this CD drive is CD only WC> while Linux ID's it as a DVD player. The manufacturer's id was adopted by a current DVD manufacturer? Na... Maybe the previous owned was trying to install the DVD under W98, the moment before it found its way to the garbage? -> -> WC> I've vowed no more Windows for me. -> -> Shoot, I'm almost there. -> WC> Well it was this last experience, having to run Ad-Aware every -> WC> other time, AVG, keeps Zone Alarm active, update the fixpacks -> WC> and STILL it gave security problems. -> WC> Then too I'd the fido virus conferences swithched on and paging -> WC> through 12 - 15 Windows trojan and virus vulnerabilities... -> Isn't it something? Heck, so much was getting by scanners when I was still -> connecting through an ISP... On one hand, I'm just as -> glad to let the library -> take care of those issues. Knowing I will inevitably -> find another provider, I'm -> trying to cram enough firewall/Linux knowledge under my -> belt for when that day -> shows up. WC> I'm not mobile enough for the linbrary and if I were WC> I couldn't sit long once there. WC> I really used to spend a lot of time there. Who said I sit once there? I only teared up a few times too! There did come a time when I had to hit the horizontal, however, and left the building for a park bench. One thing I am finding amusing however, I'm not the cleanest shaved unit on the planet, as it is leg time I'd better spend elsewhere, but I am usually dressed with an upscale jacket at least. Security is all over me when I'm in a public place. They likely take me for a person who rolled someone for the jacket, and I'm just faking the leg? -> Knowing W98 will not be supported, is not boding MS it well in my future. WC> Nor I, screw em. WC> Knoppix allows for updates on the fly for new software. The recent Linux installs I have done here allow for online upgrading. I guess they will sniff out your installed packages, and send the patches? As I don't have an ISP right now, I haven't checked 'em out. ...
