On our ftp site, there is a file called "ctags.zip", that is an interface to
"CTAGS" by Darren Hiebert. ctags.exe is a program that creates a tag or
browser "database" from the specified C/C++ source files. You can get it at
http://fly.hiwaay.net/~darren/archives/ec202w32.zip. The macro allows you
to go to a function by placing the cursor on the function and running the
macro. This macro was contributed by Jeff Hawk.
Alternatively, there is a ctags macro that I wrote, and have now posted on
the semware newsserver at news://news.semware.com/semware.tsepro. If I can
come up with a non-conflicting name, I'll also post it on the ftp site
. In the newsgroup, look for a subject of "tags, ctags, browser".
Both of these macros (Jeff's and mine) work with the latest DOS and win32
version of the editor.
Finally, Steve (at SemWare) has a really nice tags macro, but it is not
ready for prime time. It allows you to do many more things then most
"ctags" implementations I have seen (such as show you a list of where each
function is called), and has a somewhat "fuzzy" searcher. However, it is
not as good as ctags at identifying functions, there are no doc's, and is
highly customized to Steve's personal use. In the future, we would like to
make Steve's tags macro a standard part of the editor distribution, but it
will take a fair amount of work and documentation to get there. As Chris
noted in a previous message, tag support should really be part of a project
support, so that you know which files to tag.
