I have attended several conventions where a representative of the Treasury
Dept. has been on the program discussing accessible currency. Their
response is always to say that currency is accessible if we would only
purchase one of these devices. This begs the question of how many
electronic devices is a blind person expected to purchase and carry, just
in case they are needed. Before my employer provided me with a P. C., I
carried the following devices to and from work every day.
1. laptop computer, extra battery, AC adapter, portable printer, disks
etc, weighing about 15 pounds.
2. Talking calculator.
3. Franklin Language Master.
4. Cassette tape recorder.
5. Cellular phone.
6. Walkman radio.
7. lunch, (heaviest of all) LOL!
The sheer weight caused shoulder problems that exist today, and the
expense caused a long lasting pain in the ass, where my wallet sits. Oh!,
the things that a blind person must endure, and on top of that, an
electronic money identifier.
