Hey Hans,
Well, SemWare better not say "don't listen to music"...I used to constantly 
have something in my CD drive...
I found numerous CD programs would poll the CD player to keep the time in 
sync with what was being displayed on screen, and check to see if there was 
a CD in the drive, etc.
This was causing an extra strain on the system.  Would slow down TSE, and 
just about any app. I was running.  After looking around I finally settled 
on the CD player in the Power Toys from MS.  That one served the function 
really well, and didn't load the system.  Oh, and I also turned off Play 
Audio CD's automatically and Play Data CD's automaticall using Tweak UI (in 
the PowerToys) - that seemed to help a bit.
I didn't actually have the system lock up because of this, as I recall, 
just had some nasty slow downs.  But, maybe this will help you.
