While tripping merrily through the mail, Lynn Beasley was overheard
LB> Apparently you have a very large collection. That's nice. I'm jealous.
 :)
I've been working on it since 1968 when I was studinying Broadcasting
in College. The beginnings of the collection were duplicate promo
copies of new songs that came into the station I worked at, or promos
that didn't fit the station's format. Since then I've spent my life
prowling used record dealers, thrift stores and rummage sales :-)
LB> I have some Elvis stuff, but I don't have any 78's. My dad does
LB> though. I'm curious to know if he has any Elvis. He has some pretty
LB> good stuff. I think he told me he had Charley Pride or someone like
LB> that on a 78, along with many other great ones. I thought I read
LB> somewhere that the LATEST 78's were the ones that were worth the most,
LB> but the EARLIEST albums and 45's. What would that 78 of Elvis on Sun
 LB> be worth? :>
Anywhere from $100 to $5000.
78's are a funny market. The "Big Hits" from the 40's, early 50's
(read "Glenn Miller" / "Bing Crosby" etc.) are for all intents and
purposes "worthless" (I've bought hundreds at a quater each or less).
Country 78's are actually worth more than 45's, while for "Rock & Roll"
collectors prefer the 45. Some of the most valuable 78's are the 1930's
and 40's "Race" records (black artists, usually Blues) on lables like
Bluebird and Brunswick.
LB> Well, I (being the SysOp :>) turned the Beatles echo on the same
LB> time I did this one and I thought about posting my first message in
LB> that one, but thought better about it. If you talk about it in there
 LB> I'll watch. :>
Join in, as John said "A splendid time will be had by all".
LB> Hmmmmmmmm........this one says (in small print) "All lyrics copyright
LB> 1967 for the world by Northern Songs Ltd. England". Under the picture
LB> of all those walruses :> on the front there's a thing that says
LB> "Includes 24-page full color picture book", which I don't have of
LB> course. :> It also has some tiny words on the front that says....
 LB> "1967 NEMS-ENTERPRISES LTD."
You're looking at the sleeve. The notes I referred to are on the lable
on the disc itself, on side one, at the very bottom, under the green apple.
