We were seeking good reference sources on Wedgwood collecting.
We visited a large antique mall in Fort Worth and bought a piece of lilac
colored Wedgwood we had been mulling over for about two weeks. It was a bit
pricey but it went well with two other pieces we had. We also added a terra
cota colored club shaped tray recently. Those pieces plus several unusual
green pieces were our Christmas gifts to ourselves.
We received the list of available books from Collectors Books in Kentucky but
none were specifically about Wedgwood. We visited our local library and
found four books on Wedgwood: one was a biographical history of the Wedgwood
family; one was basically a black and white overview of Wedgwood; one was a
limited guide on collecting; the last was a collectors guide to Wedgwood and
fairly decent. While visiting the antique mall today, we found an older but
much better book for a rather steep price but bought it as we needed a decent
reference book now. We will keep searching for other books and contact the
Wedgwood collectors society now that we have an address in New Jersey. It
may not be current but I'm sure it will lead us to the correct one.
Can you suggest any good books that would reference the green and lilac
Wedgwood in detail? One of our pieces has been researched and dated as 1872
- a small green vase. We have several green pieces and would like to date
them and establish a true value for them. We also have only seen three lilac
colored pieces, and we bought them. Other collectors had commented several
times that they have never seen the lilac color, so, we are guessing it is
fairly uncommon. We would like to be certain. Your helpful comments would
be appreciated.
Regards,
Frank Starns
