While tripping merrily through the mail, Lynn Beasley was overheard
LB> Would anyone know a lot about the Beatles albums and what they would
LB> be worth. What I have is....
"Value" of a record is a VERY subjective thing. Prices vary WIDELY based
on condition, and region. The same record in Southern California can
sell for over TWICE what the same record would bring in the upper midwest.
A few notes on condition.
"Near Mint": Record looks and plays like "brand new"
"VG+" : Record has obviously been played, the vinyl may have
lost some of it's shine, there may be a slight "ring"
on the sleeve.
"VG" : Record has obviously been played, but well cared for,
very little surface noise, sleeve will be in good condition
with no tears or writing.
"Good" : Average condition, there may be rips or tears in the
sleeve, some surface noise, but not enough to overpower
the sleeve, but no skips.
"Fair" : ANY skips, excessive surface noise, poor condition sleeve,
generally not worth anything in the collector market.
LB> The White Album - records are in good shape, but the album isn't.
LB> (Can anyone tell me why this album says it was made in England, but it
LB> has Columia Records on it? Was/Is Columbia Records in England?)
Columbia? That has got to be a reissue. Columbia in the UK was a part of
EMI, but all copies of the White album I have ever seen are the "Apple"
lable, distributed in the US by Capitol. As far as values, here are some
average RETAIL prices, culled from various price guides and personal
experience (what you should expect to pay a dealer, if you plan
to SELL to a dealer, expect 1/2 to 1/3.). These are a guideline only,
any piece is worth EXACTLY what you can get someone to pay for it.
Condition: Near Mint VG+ Good(average)

LB> The Yellow submarine - all is in good shape
Apple SW-153,
Apple lable w/Capitol Logo 25.00 10.00 3.00
Apple lable w/o " " 15.00 6.00 2.00
LB> I also have a couple of the Beatles' 45s on the Apple label, in the
LB> original sleeves in great condition.
Any record BEFORE "Get Back" on the Apple lable is a reissue., generally
worth from $ 1.00 to $ 5.00 for the disc, and about the same again for
the sleeve. Original "first Pressings" of the later songs on Apple (there
were only about 4 or 5) generally go from $ 2.00 to $ 10.00, and about
Twice that for the sleeve. First pressings can be identified by the words
"mfg. by Capitol Records" on the lable. "Mfg. by Apple Records" are
issues.
LB> Also, what about Sonny & Cher's first album or two.
"Baby Don't Go" (1965)
Reprise R-6177 (mono) 20.00 8.00 2.00
Reprise RS-6177 (Stereo) 30.00 12.00 3.00
"Look At Us" (1965)
Atco 33-177 (m) 15.00 6.00 2.00
Atco SD-33-177 (s) 20.00 8.00 3.00
Most Atco releases from 1965 to 1972 are actually worth about the same.
LB> Can anyone tell me what these are worth please?
Again, as I said, these are "guidelines" only, a record in "fair" condition
that's worth $50.00 near mint can be worth 50 cents.
LB> Thank you...
You're welcome.
