I appreciate you're sharing your opinion with me, Bill.  However, the last
time I checked the New Testament was written in Koine Greek.  Now you can
debate about what the original autographs contained and which textual
family of manuscripts you're going to use but the fact remains that the KJV
1611 is a translation of God's Word.  The Old Testament, likewise, is based
on the Hebrew Masoretic text, though it does contain some Aramaic.
I understand your loyalty to the major English translation of the last 400
years but it is not the only translation of God's Word, though it is a very
good one for its time.  Since the KJV was translated we have the Dead Sea
Scrolls to support the OT and we have over 5,000 Greek manuscripts of the
NT.  KJV scholars only had a few hundred Greek manuscripts.  Additionally,
we no longer speak the same English that was spoken in everyday
communications in 1611.  This is 1997.
Finally, any doctrinal disagreements, according the Reformers, must be
settled from the original languages and not from translations.  Luther
spoke German and Latin but he made his arguments for the Reformation from
the original Greek and Hebrew.  Likewise, John Calvin, probably spoke
French, German, and Latin but argued from the original tongues of the Holy
Scriptures to prove his case.
I still use the KJV for memorization because of its beautiful and poetic
language.  However, for preaching and teaching I use either the New King
James Version or the New International Version (and sometimes the New
American Standard Bible).  I never use the KJV because it is obsolete as
far as I'm concerned.
I'm sure you'll want to debate the issues but I've already done that
several times in the years past in this and other Fidonet echoes and I'm
really not interested in arguing about it.  Just remember that KJV does
convey God's inspired Word and if you're happy with that translation, may
God bless you and minister to you through it.
