FS>> We are still searching for some recommendations for good books on
FS>> collecting Wedgwood, so, keep us in mind as you "mall" your area.
JK> I found a book at Barnes & Noble which dedicated a few pages to
JK> Wedgwood. I wouldn't call it "the definitive guide", as it featured
JK> some of the higher-priced pieces. However! The title is "Warman's
JK> English & Continental Pottery & Porcelain, 2nd Ed." It is a
JK> Guidebook, the ISBN is 0-87069-577-0 and the price is $19.95,
JK> paperback. When I run across any more references, I'll pass them on.
Thanx. The book you described sounds like the ones we have seen. We have
learned there are books/publications that specialize in W. Further searching
with eventually lead us to them, of that I'm confident. Until then we'll
rely on our limited experience and on our own taste. We only buy what we
like and will display in our home. If we don't pay too much (in our opinion)
for an item, we are pleased, regardless of a book. Thus far, we have
purchased by beginner's luck, accident, and personal taste, some highly
desirable and hard to find/rare pieces.
Based upon comparison shopping, we have managed to pay less than normal or
expected prices on all of the pieces thus far. I have no doubt that we will
make a bad decision sooner than later but it will have to be a big one to
offset the savings we have achieved thus far. We are happy but not over
confident; we are aware of our limited technical knowledge but we hope to
offset that by only buying what we like. Thus, if and when we make a costly
mistake, we can keep the piece(s) and enjoy the beauty as we work to offset
the blunder in future purchases!
Isn't pre-purchase rationalization a hoot? I'm trying to convince myself I
won't be too terribly embarrassed when I pull a colossal blunder of huge
magnitudes! Of course, I'll be totally mortified and my wife will never let
me live it down! Ain't collecting a grand hobby?
