subject: help with macro

From: james doherty
Hello group:
Newspapers for the Blind is a small group of volunteers that provides
reading material to blind, visually impaired, physically and learning
disabled people. We use tsepro 2.5 to edit our material.
We could use some help in writing a macro to do the following:
search all file names in a specified directory for duplicates of ALL of
the first five characters in a file name.
move all but the latest version of the duplicate files to another
specified directory.
so, for example:
test1.txt 03/05/98 3:15a
test1a.txt 03/05/98 3:35a
test1b.txt 03/05/98 4:10a
test1c.txt 03/06/98 1:20a
test2.txt 03/05/98 5:15a
test2a.txt 03/05/98 5:20a
test2b.txt 03/05/98 7:12a
..after running the macro would leave:
test1c.txt
test2b.txt
..the other five files would be moved to another specified directory.
would anyone like to take a crack at this? We (and the people we serve )
would be grateful.
If you need to reach me for further information, my voice line is

Thank you,
James Doherty
Executive Director
Newspapers for the Blind.
