Harvey, I suggest that, even if the pattern changes are as few in our
history as you say, they do prove that change can happen. For those who
want change--whatever that change might be, it's a sign of hope.
Another example is the resolution adopted in 1994 concerning tactile
currency. In its substance, I don't think the resolution is worth much.
It was, however, a significant departure from our absolutist stand against
tactile currency, expressed unwaveringly the previous spring in the
Monitor. This was one factor in my decision to remain a member past the
end of that year, rather than deciding that rejoining had been a mistake,
that I was just too far out of step with the outfit. The shift was the
factor, that is, not the stance on tactile currency.
