There are three different block functions: Alt-A blocks a letter or word
at a time, Alt-L blocks entire lines, and Alt-K blocks columns. The Sort
function only works with the column block.
Mark the beginning of the items you want to sort with Alt-K, move to the
end of the line with either the End key or Ctrl-Right Arrow. Then Down Arrow
or PageDown to the last line you want included in the sort and type another
Alt-K to mark the end of the column. Now try the Sort command.
You can get all these commands from the pulldown menu. Press the ESC key
to get the pulldown menu at the top of the screen.
Your friends are correct - Qedit, now called TSE Jr, is one of the best
text editors available. You just need to get onto it a little more or skim
through the docs. As far as it not being intuitive goes, you can customize
the commands to your own preference.
