-> Are you sure? It looked to me as if all the humans died and
-> only
-> animals survived. Knowing that the planet will decide what races
-> will go on, I thought humans caused more trouble than solve. I
-> thought all the humans died. After the credits it showed Red XIII
-> with his children or grand children and showed them what humans have
-> done to the planet. What does everyone else think happened?
I am absolutely sure.
For one; If Red was around then we can be sure that everyone else
probably survived too.
Two; If Meteor did destroy all humanity then that mean's that Aerith's
Holy spell, her death, and all of the spirits of the Earth that came to
her call was in vain.
Three; there was also the sound of human children laughter in that
ending with Red's decendants.
Four; It was lamented and remarked in the game by the main characters
that the world should not rely on Mako energy, so the abandonment of
Midgar was probably testiment to humanity's return to relying on more
Earth-friendly energy resources.
Five; the full impact of Meteor was necessary to destroy the Earth. The
fact that it was heavily damaged on two instances removed the threat of
total destruction of the human race.
Six; the planet wanted the human race to prove itself. I think that
Cloud and Aerith did that beyond any doubt. If not then the planet would
not have responded.
But my main belief comes with Aerith herself, and the fact that she
materialized at the last moment, along with the spirits of all who had
gone before, and what they did to Meteor is what saved the world. If
Meteor *had* struck then there wouldn't have even *been* a Midgar that
we saw abandoned. That, and I prefer to think that all of the work that
we did in the game didn't go for naught. :)
