Harvey,
I did not mean to imply that anyone was "against" the national leadership
in my note, I guess that was unclear. We're getting into a more
theoretical discussion in some ways, and I was trying to figure out if
the problem that Steve Z. was describing was really one of structure, or
if it might be that the leadership has too much influence. He could
honestly feel that there should be limits on the influence of a leader
without necessarily feeling that leader is wrong. When I reread my
message, it was not very clear.

realistic and reasonable a chance to reject the recommendations of our
leadership as we do to accept them. We are not anti national leadership; we
support it when we feel it is corre
ct and oppose it when we feel it is wrong, but in recent years the deck has
become too stacked in favor of the national leadership and it is getting
worse all the time. I wonder if we had electronic voting where each
convention attendee could vote any is
sue up or down what would happen. I think in such a situation the national
leadership would do well to pass half its agenda.
