subject: JAWS and TSE32 compatibility

From: Tswann@Hj.com (Tom Swann)
For anyone not using TSE/32 with JAWS (a screen reader program), this
post probably has little value and can be deleted.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmm I started looking into this and the farther in I get the fewer
real problems I think there are.
I started writing a macro that would tell JAWS to read the current
line everytime the cursor was moved up and down, but I discovered
that I couldnt overload the cursor up and down keys in TSE which lead
me to think there was a problem with one of my autoload macros. Sure
enough with them off, my macro started working..
You need to set TSE up so that all colors are the same...ie the
cursor line is the same color as the everything else. If you have
any settings where one type of text is different from another, then
JAWS will read that when the screen is updated (scrolling, cursor
movement, etc).
I couldnt find an option to turn the status line off completely, but
it helps if its at the bottom. The status line being on all the time
is particularly annoying because (I think) it is updated periodically
which makes the cursor move around...which is producing an annoying
stuttering of the current character )
Anyway I have this macro that causes JAWS to read the current line
when the cursor moves up or down (given that you've set TSE up as
I've described above). So for the most part the problem doesnt have
anything to do with Console mode, instead it has to do with the fact
that TSE is doing a lot of stuff with the display when you move your
cursor. The only thing that cant be turned off is that status line
(Anyway to do this Sammy?).
I've got a macro that reads each line as you cursor up and down,
unfortunately the macro messes up the insert state (its making calls
to a dll and shoving the keys JAWs uses to read a line (insert + Up
Arrow by default)). I think its just that dll access through tse is
slow, so Im working on a custom dll to push the 4 key strokes with
one function call which I should finish sometime this week (as time
permits). Anyone using JAWs with TSE should let me know and Ill
email the dll and macro to them directly rather than post to the
group directly (unless I see a wider interest than I currently
suspect exists).
