After the last big severe weather event of April 27, 2014...when an
EF-4 tornado blasted through central Arkansas...occurrences of severe
weather had been rare. That was until the afternoon and evening of
October 2, 2014.

  Of the 5 National Weather Service Offices serving Arkansas (Little Rock,
Tulsa, Memphis, Shreveport, and Jackson)...except for Shreveport and
Jackson, the others had several severe weather reports...most in the
Little Rock County Warning Area.

  This morning, I noted 64 reports out of Little Rock, 9 out of Tulsa,
and 7 out of Memphis. Tulsa covers northwest and west central Arkansas,
with Memphis covering northeast and east central Arkansas...Shreveport
covering southwest and south central Arkansas, Jackson covering extreme
southeast Arkansas, Little Rock much of the rest of the state.

  Of the reports, there were a few hail reports out of Tulsa, but all
the rest were thunderstorm wind damage. When the storms got to Little
Rock, a few of them became tornadic (Doppler Radar indicated), and
Tornado Warnings were issued, including for the Little Rock area. The
worst of the storms were to my south and southeast, thankfully...and
myself, my Mom, and my brother, are all OK.

  Storm Damage Surveys are being done by the offices noted above to
determine whether damage was from straight line winds or tornadoes,
and these results will be announced in the coming days.

  Unfortunately, with the weather pattern, we may have some more severe
weather events, before a threat of ice and snow this winter.
