Those were cross-licensed. Bad example because Atari Corp didn't do the
programming. Those had crappy sound because they were translated to PC
by Microsoft, I believe. Anyway, Atari made money on it up front.

When has any Vic-20 software impressed anyone? Heheheheheheh...
It's all crap, as far as I could tell. :-)

I concede that is theoretically possible. However, as I pointed out
before, the average consumer is often not aware of the cross licensed,
or cross developed titles. I'm reasonably well aware of this stuff, but
I had no idea that Joust existed for the NES until a few weeks ago.
I honestly don't think you can demonstrate that this is a significant
worry for Atari Corp. Time will tell however.

That is totally untrue. The Joust product says "1988" right on the
screen. This coincides with the exact same time frame as both Atari
2600 Junior and Atari 7800 products. As proof, here are some examples
of ATARI CORP titles from my personal collection:
Atari 2600 titles Date
-----------------------------------
Junior Pac-Man CX26123 (Atari 1988)
Ms. Pac-Man CX2675 (Atari 1988)
Midnight Magic CX26129 (Atari 1987)
Atari 7800 titles Date
-----------------------------------------
One-On-One Basketball CX7824 (Atari 1987)
Karateka CX7822 (Atari 1987)
Ms. Pac-Man CX7807 (Atari 1988)
Choplifter CX7821 (Atari 1988)
Joust CX7806 (Atari 1988)
As a matter of fact, the original Atari 7800 pack-in game "Pole
Position II" is dated 1987! I'm not aware of the date that the 7800 was
first brought to market, but the evidence from the pack-in leads me to
believe late 1987 or early 1988! This coincided exactly with
cross-licensed Atari products on NES, contrary to what you said.
I have two 7800 Choplifter carts, one dated 87, and one dated 88.
Same for my two 7800 Ms. Pac-Man carts. If they had been discontinued
"long before", they wouldn't have dates that match the NES product,
or come within 12 months of it.
