Everyone's taste range differently, even for fans of a
particular type, such as RPG's. For me, I like the old style turn-based,
menu-driven RPG's that I grew up with; Phantasy Star, Final Fantasy,
Lunar, ect. but I also thoroughly enjoy good turn-based strategy RPG's
such as Shining Force and Vandal Hearts. FFT fits the latter category
perfectly, and with an incredible amount of options to really tailor
the game to whatever strategy the player wants to try.
I absolutely hate so-called "action RPG's" such as Zelda, Secret
of Evermore, Alundra and Shining Wisdom. Everyone's taste is different.
That even goes for strategy games like Ogre Battle and Dragon Force. In
that case there is too much to keep track of with all of the different
forces going hither and yonder. In my case there's no enjoyment in such
frantic scurrying around. I like to relax with a good RPG, be it
"normal" or strategy.
So for me, yes, FFT is absolutely great, and I am enjoying it as
much as I did FF7. Now I'm waiting to see if Tactics Ogre will make us
have to watch over armies scurrying everywhere or if it will be more
like FFT where I can just concentrate on a single force, which will be
much more enjoyable and relaxing for me with my RPG playing style.
