subject: ? two stroke diesel

MK>Tach zusammen,

MK>some time ago, i was asked about four and two stroke engines.
MK>in this discussion we taked about a diesel engine as two stroke.

MK>i asked the cummins company but they never built two stroke diesel.

Correct, Cummins Diesels have always been 4 stroke engines.

MK>but they told me, that detroit diesel builts such engines.
MK>but they never answered my faxes :-((

Jimmy's (Detroit diesels) have always been two stroke engines.

MK>there are engines with and without valves. how do two-stroker work with
MK>valves? how do they work at all?

They use both, I believe, though I don't have info. I'll look around,
maybe there is some info available.

MK>how about the precompression of a twostroke - how is this made with
MK>diesel?

They use a Rootes (spelling?) type blower, or compressor, to provide the
precompression necessary, which is usually provided by the lower end on
a gasoline two stroke engine. The blower is belt driven. These Jimmy
blowers are often used on gas or fuel engines used in professional
dragstrip racers, you may have seen them in pictures of drag cars with
very high engines, as the blower sits atop the intake manifold and below
the carbs, and is driven by a wide belt off the crank.

MK>does anybody have connections to detroit diesel?

MK>bit bald
