Your examples have nothing to do with any of the strikes in baseball.

The players tried from day one to get these guys included but the owners
refused because it meant less profits. The union's only *legal* recourse was
to offer to provide benefits if the old timers were to pay dues and I think
that's one of the things that Garagiola has bitched about. Ownership has
relented some due to the effort of BATS and other organizations (including
the players) but they've never given them enough (even by any inflated
standard that you might hold the players to). The players, like those in the
NBA and NFL, have been running up against a stonewall and it's not their
fault that ownership refuses to take responsibility (in all the leagues).
