The 49ers traded Dave Neuman to the Jets for saying:

The millions are an offshoot of free agency, which was a hard fought battle. 
Without free agency, the players would be making far less than 50 or 60 
million, they'd probably have packages that are less than $5 mil in total 
cost while the owners would be picking up quite a bit more profit because of 
it.
