JG> it DIDN'T have a serial number... I went
JG> out and bought a number dye set, and put my fiance's social security

Be careful never to refer to it as a serial number. There are, though I
don't know quite what they are, all sorts of complicated federal laws
regarding putting serial numbers on guns, with some heavy penalties. I
think it's something to do with a firearm manufacturer's license.
(BTW, just in case you haven't seen The Rules yet: it is OK to discuss
what the laws ARE. What the laws SHOULD BE is a political matter, and
this echo is strickly [sic] technical, no politics allowed. The line
does get a mite thin at times, so let's be careful....)
JG> Then... there's my baby! A Browning Hi-Power 9mm. I've logged
JG> every round that has gone through the barrel, who shot it, when
JG> it was shot, and where it was shot.
Wow. With that love of paperwork, maybe you should apply for a job at
the IRS. B-)
JG> I don't like the painted finish, but I'm too scared to
JG> try and strip and blue it. I did blue the barrel, though...
JG> (I just went crazy with that stuff :) Normally, I wouldn't
JG> like the fixxed sights, but they are dead on!
Cool. I have a SIG P226 that is about dead-on at around 10 yards. I
prefer adjustable sights, but....
JG> Last, but not least, there's my Smith & Wesson Model 916-A 12ga.
JG> shotgun. Don't know much about it... shoots 3" shells, holds 6 rounds.
JG> I've owned it for a year now, and haven't even fired the sucker!
I know what it's like. I've been too busy to get to the range
ever since getting my Garand from the DCM, almost two years ago now.
JG> Well... I only have 3 right now, but it keeps growing!
That's the way it tends to work. As Tom Ciarula (who used to hang out
in here) said to me once offline, "I'm not a gun /collector/, I'm just a
gun /accumulator/." I myself have about ten now, having gotten the
first one only five years ago.
