Edgar finished with a .188 average. I think his potential is just a tad
higher than that. :^)
People shouldn't be surprised. It seems to happen about every year. Some
"great hitting" team gets to the playoffs or World Series and is shut down by
"great pitching." It happened in '95 when the Braves completely shut down
the Indians' vaunted attack. It happened in '88 when the Dodgers shut down
and upset the A's lineup.
Of course, you still have mediots like Joe Morgan proclaim, "Good pitching
cannot shut down /great/ hitting."
