          BIBLE STUDY QUESTIONS, 23/01/1998 ................. LUKE 10:17-20
          Background:--  In LUKE 10:1-16 we see Jesus sending out a number
          (70 or 72) of His disciples on a missionary tour.  In 10:17-20,
          they report back to Jesus after their mission trip.  This would
          give them practical experience in going out on their own, while
          Jesus was still available to give them a personal "de-briefing".
          1)  In his commentary on Lk 10:18, Leon Morris says, "To the
          casual observer all that had happened was that a few mendicant
          preachers had spoken in a few small towns and healed a few sick
          folk.  But in that gospel triumph Satan had suffered a notable
          defeat."  What are some things -we- do, that may seem ordinary or
          innocuous, but still have cosmic, eternal significance?

          2)  In Lk 10:19, Jesus says, "Behold, I have given you authority
          to trample on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the
          enemy; and nothing will harm you."  In the Bible, we find that
          "serpent", "snake", "adder", "cobra" and "viper" often represent
          agents of Satan, enemies of God.  We have authority over these,
          and over all the power of Satan.  Why then, do we not always find
          ourselves walking in absolute victory over them?

          3)  We can see Jesus affirms that He has given us great authority
          indeed!  But in Lk 10:20, He says it is far more important "that
          your names are written in heaven".  What does this signify?
