PERL compiles directly to an executable - it just doesn't write
that executable to any file. So, you get all the speed of C -
actually faster than many C programs since its doing alot of
optimizations that most C programmers are too lazy to code.

I prefer the PERL approach - its faster than BASIC, and I never
have to run a compiler or interpretter. It also has more features
than any other language I know of (unless you count restrictions
 and strong typing a feature).
