The 49ers traded Dave Hassler to the Jets for saying:
DH> I've read of this in some book that was called (er....something like...)
You have to remember that bios are written to make the players look like
gods. The wall in Fenway was lower during the early years, however, it was
also further back. Fenway Park was a much harder place to hit home runs AND
score runs from 1912-1933. The wall was raised 12 feet and moved in 12 feet
in 1934 and it became one of the better scoring and hitting parks (Left field
went from 324 in 1912 to 312 in 1934. Centerfield went from 488 to 388 in
1934. The dimensions of the field were a lot more hitter friendly).
DH> IMO, Foxxie and Greenberg *may* have been the best sluggers in baseball
DH> *ever*.
If you're going to limit yourself to that era then they don't compare to
Ruth. They might be second and third to Ruth, however, they're further behind
than you might think.
I'd have to say that McGwire is the best that I've seen and that's not just
from being an A's fan.
