I've read of this in some book that was called (er....something like...)  
"Baseball Biographies: the Players that Made the Game".  Reference  
section of the library -- they wouldn't let me check it out (that damn  
buzzer kept going off.....)  ;^) 
 
IMO, Foxxie and Greenberg *may* have been the best sluggers in baseball
