There has been much speculation about the 64DD lately. Some people say it
will come with a RAM upgrade, others say a modem. The 64DD is going to
fragment the user base, and offering a modem or a RAM upgrade separately
is just out of the question. I don't think Nintendo is ready for internet
gaming. However, using the modem for downloading software upgrades, or
direct modem games with friends would not be out of the question. In order
to have a successful internet program, you need to include a modem from the
start and have your infrastructure already in place. Sega learned this the
hard way with the Netlink and I don't think they will make the same mistake
with Katana. A 64DD modem is still a possibility but I wouldn't look forward
to an internet program until Nintendo's next console.
