subject: The Upper Cumberland River Cherokee Indians of Kentucky

My blood quantum is 3/8 Indian, 5/16 Upper Cumberland River Cherokee
Indians of Kentucky on my dad's side (he's 5/8), and 1/16
Delaware-Muncie Tribe of Kansas on my mom's side (she's 1/8). Both
tribes are non federally recognized. My mom's tribe has applied for
recognition. My dad's tribe, which is my tribe as well, has not yet
applied. My dad has, and I will eventually inherit, about thirty acres
of tribal land at Rockholds, KY, which has never been out Indian hands.
I was due to go to Kentucky (I live in the San Diego, CA area) and help
with recognition efforts when I came down with multiple sclerosis. I'm
doing much better now and, I still intend to go back there in a few
years. When our land was sold by fraudulent treaty, we were given the
option of moving south with the tribe or, staying as individuals on
individual pieces of land. My ancestors chose to stay (this was the
birth of the Chickamauga as a politically seperate group
of Cherokee, we were followers of Dragging Canoe). Here is a link to
some incidents in the history of our tribe:

By the way, I'm a descendant of Chief Redbird, who is mentioned in a
couple of sites in this link.
