* Netmail/Internet Email Mini-FAQ by Scott Adams / Longshot (IRC)

Due to frequent questions on how to setup TG to get/send both Netmail
AND email I've formed this mini-faq. It is the setup I use here with
Gecho, FD, Netmgr & Telegard. Any other mailer should be similar in
it's basic setup like Fastecho. So follow this as a guidelins. Some
of this may not be in direct order to follow but should be an outline.

   1) Gecho - Gsetup
Gsetup -> System Data -> Network Addresses
First you'll have to tell Gecho your network addresses like so..
³ Main 1:112/91 J/M
³ Aka 1 33:409/0 J/M
³ Aka 2 33:409/1 J/M
³ Aka 3 95:200/54 J/M
³ Aka 4 100:6607/14 J/M
Each slot should have your net address in it.
The right J/M denotes a JAM Message base where netmail is moved to.
This is important. So when you give it a net address you'll need to
assign a netmail base to it like NETMAIL (see below).

Gsetup -> System Data -> PathNames

        ³ Netmail C:\FD\NETMAIL\
        ³ Inbound mail C:\inbound\
These two are important to the setup and should match your Front
      End-Mailer's setup.

Gsetup -> Misc. -> Netmail Options
        ³ Rcvd netmail area J/M ³
        ³ Sent netmail area J/M ³
From this section those 2 are important. It attaches any received
or sent netmail from the same base you applied in the Network Address
section. Without this pointing to NETMAIL or such it may not work.

      Gsetup -> Area Manager
Now to setup the actual 2 bases in gecho
³ Area name NETMAIL
³ Comment Regular Network Netmail
³ Area type Echomail
³ Format JAM
³ Base name C:\TGdir\MSGS\NETMAIL
³ Group L - Local to BBS
³ Origin AKA 1:112/91
³ Seen-By 1:112/91
³ Connections 1:112/91
Of this you will notice it's ECHOMAIL instead of netmail.
This seems to work more efficiently this way.

 Area name IMAIL
 Comment Internet Email
 Area type Netmail
 Format JAM
 Base name C:\TGdir\MSGS\IMAIL
Group L - Local to BBS
 Origin AKA 1:112/91
 Seen-By 1:112/91
 Connections 1:112/91
        That's for Internet Email.

   2) Telegard Setup
Now you should setup your TG msg bases like so...

A. Description Fringe Gatemail -Netmail
B. Area tag NETMAIL
C. Area path "C:\TGdir\MSGS\"
   Area name "C:\TGdir\MSGS\NETMAIL"
D. Area format JAM
E. Area type Netmail
M. Mail address AKA matching S. Anonymous No
N. Mail flags R-----/8A-ST T. *Tracking N/A
O. Posting type Private U. Info filename MSGH
Notice the Filename of Netmail.* matches that of Gecho's.

A. Description Fringe Internet Email Sub
B. Area tag IMAIL
C. Area path "C:\TGdir\MSGS\"
   Area name "C:\TGdir\MSGS\IMAIL"
D. Area format JAM
E. Area type Internet Email
M. Mail address AKA matching S. Anonymous No
N. Mail flags R-----/8A-ST T. *Tracking N/A
O. Posting type Private U. Info filename MSGH

Now as we did with Gecho we should let TG know of the networks we
      are in as follows:

Message System Configuration - Network Addresses
## Address MatchAKA NetArea ## Address MatchAKA NetArea
-- ----------------- -------- -------- -- ----------------- -------- ------
1 1:112/91 1:112 NETMAIL 11 0:0/0
3 33:409/1 33:0 NETMAIL 13 88:310/0 88:310 NETMAIL
4 33:409/1 33:409 NETMAIL 14 88:310/100 88:310 NETMAIL
6 90:803/11 90:0 NETMAIL 16 12:904/5 12:904 NETMAIL
Notice each net could have its own netmail base but for this
purpose I use only one base.

Some settings that could work with your configuartion

Message System Configuration

D. Netmail status Kill L. Userlist lookup Enabled
E. Hold all netmail No M. Nodelist lookup Enabled
F. UUCP email gate 1:112/102 N. SmartQuote Disabled
G. Antiquated UUCP Disabled O. QuickQuote Disabled
Y. Write logging C:\TGdir\

Option D will be good for users who might use netmail.
F is the internet gateway I use. Option Y tells TG to
generate the *.jam files like netmail.jam and such.

   3) Front Door - Front End Mailer
FDSETUP -> Global -> Address is the same with setting up net addresses
         like in Gecho.
FDSETUP -> Global -> Filenames - the inbound and netmail dir should
         match gecho and TG's information.
FDSETUP -> Mailer -> Misc. as an option you can have FD exit upon any
receipt of netmail or any file (as I do) so users can get netmail
and email when it comes in.

   4) Batch File
In the batch file that runs your FEM/BBS you should have lines that
tells Gecho to toss out going mail.

        if Exist c:\tgdir\echomail.jam goto Quick
        if exist c:\tgdir\netmail.jam goto Quick
Netmail.jam is for netmail and Email.

      :Quick
      Gecho scan -Quick

With the -quick it does it ALOT more faster by reading the outgoing
msgs in the *.jam files. To import the netmail you should do a
Gecho Toss Import (adding Import) to the commandline.

   5) Netmgr
Finally some have problems tossing email (which is generally given
in *.msg format (same as netmail so it gets confused) to the RIGHT
TG email base. With Netmgr you can do a function to correct this.
With netmgr you can have the *.msg files (sitting in FD by now if
you get some) to the right base. You'll need to setup a netmgr.cfg
   like so:
        ---------------------------------------------------
        Home 1:112/91.0
Origin Fringe BBS - EWOG II (904)-733-1721 (1:112/91)
        Log c:\fd\netmgr.log

        ScanDir c:\fd\netmail

        Mask *, 1:112/102.0, *, *, *, *
        Action Move !c:\tgdir\msgs\imail
; fromname, fromaddress, toname, toaddress, subject, attributes
        ----------------------------------------------------

Home: MAIN address with .0 for point (otherwise it doesn't work).
Origin - your origin line :)
ScanDir- This tells Netmgr where to scan for netmail (*.msg files)
Once it scans and finds *.msg files with FROMADDRESS of 1:112/102.0
(in my case my fidonet internet gateway) via the MASK command.
It will then do a action of MOVING that *.msg file into the email base.

Netmgr should be run BEFORE you process regular mail.
So in the batch file put Netmgr before your Gecho... statements

I have Netmgr freqable from here as NTMGR98.arj

In conclusion this is the setup I use here and it works. There
is another source that was hatched via TG_SUP - TGFIGV40.zip which does
a simliar FAQ and step by step setup (also freqable).
