You have a very good point, but I can say that
watching a loved one play Resident Evil, and
seeing them jump when a zombie comes
up from behind via the rear speakers does
add some real entertainment to the game playing.
It is sort of like the pixels,
some people are really worried about how
high the the pixel count is, whereas others just
enjoy the game play. Surround sound that actually
uses the rear speakers wisely really improves the
overall effect, even if the actual
quality of that sound isn't as good as live.
I personally like the racing games
where I can hear the car behind me,
I know the driver is on my butt and it does put
pressure on me to not screw up.
No, the sound quality may not be as good as
it could be, but that doesn't stop
people such as myself from really enjoying
the game - as a matter of fact I don't
usually have time to analyze the sound quality,
too busy enjoying the game .
