Howdy! I got an oooold OS Max 45 F, this thing is about 10 years old,
but still looks good.
Problem is, it won't idle worth a spit. It's got the original OS 4BK
carb, ya know, the big-bore carb like the more modern SF and FX series.
I've tried setting the low-speed needle, but still won't really idle as
reliably as I need it to be...
It's a ringed engine, and if you turn it by hand, there's little
compression. Once at speed, though, it's a terror... this thing
verticaled my Trainer Forty (Great Planes - about 6 lbs) for a distance,
but it won't idle! I've been told ringed engines don't make compression
till they're running -- sounds fishy, I used to have a Honda 80cc four
stroker dirtbike, and it had PLENTY compression =-)
SO... what can I do? Try 15% nitro? I usually run 5%. New carb? I
can't find it listed. The SF uses a 4D, I wonder if it'll fit.
Argh. I really don't want to buy a new engine. That 45F sounds so
neeeet!
