subject: State-recognized tribes

KA> I am curious as to people's feelings and thoughts
 KA> regarding tribes that are
KA> recognized by the state only. Surely we are all aware
KA> of the dubious nature of
KA> some of these, but in general; a positive step toward
 KA> full recognition, or a
KA> muddying of an already unclear political situation?
KA> I understand that the controversial (and somewhat questionable) Georgia
KA> Cherokee Confederacy, one of several state-recognized
 KA> Cherokee tribes, has
KA> applied for federal recognition. They've probably done it numerous times
KA> before, as have hundreds of other groups.
KA> Anyone have thoughts on this?
IF you wouldn't mind.....And Ray can support me on this....I hve no problems
in discussing any issues, as long as I understand them. Maybe you could
enlighten me as to what you mean and what this is all about. I don't get to
watch the news or read a paper too often, but I am sure that you can give an
adequate assessment of the situation or if there is anything in error,
someone will help in making it right.
