I've been doing mostly factory for a long time. I'm in a job that is
part-time, walking distance, and gives me a benefit package. It's not
the most exciting job, but could be worse. Sometimes I will take a
seasonal job as well doing customer service or picking/packing.
I'm taking a career counseling course at our local college that is
really helpful in terms of defining what's important and what you would
do best based on many tests. So far, clerical and social work are my
highest interests. But today we took a "values" test to determine the
"emotional salary" we want from a job. Things like variety, good pay,
independence, recognition--there's 36 in all and we had to narrow it
down to the 5 most important. It wasn't easy toward the end. :-) I
can see there will have to be trade-offs when decision time comes. I
still think working at home would be best and keep the current part-time
job. Clerical would fit right in....
