Most of unix/linux Nodes do not support filerequests by default. There are request-bots for *nix available, I remember one of Alex Woik and mfreq from Markus Reschke. Sources are on github. I ported mfreq (from Markus Reschke) and rproc from Alex Woik from *nix to os2.

No, it's not part of the mailer. You need additional Software to serve file-requests during mailersession.

A second way is sending a netmail filerequest (by crash or routed) to the nodesystem, and the Nodesystem will put the requested file on hold. For this, you also need additional software for serving (routed) netmail file-requests.
