In the case of the scope it's more a matter of getting middle
aged and starting to worry about when I can't do a thousand meters on
iron sights anymore. I don't need glasses yet, but that dismal day is
coming when I can't laugh at people who need a telescopic sight to hit
the broad side of a barn anymore, and I'm going to hate that.
Still, if I have to do that, I think that I'll be as politically
incorrect as possible and get something like a Winchester 70 or
Remington 700 action in .308 with a heavy barrel, match trigger, Weaver
or Redfield rings, a Shepard scope and put the whole assembly on a
carefully bedded McMillan Intimidator stock. (Besides, I'm getting old
and us old geezers need all the help that we can get-- and having
something that looks like a sniper's rifle annoys people in certain
quarters which suits me just fine!! )
Besides, it would hurt me to screw up a perfectly good M28-30 by
hanging a scope on it. I think that I'll leave it as is, and perhaps my
youngest daughter or one of my future grandkids will have as much fun
with it as I have had. It's still my favorite.
