Hi Leah, Hi Tammy!
Working from home? My wife operates a home-based word processing and
transcription service. She also takes in student work and writes resumes.
It isn't making us rich, but it is flexible enough for her to arrange her
hours so she can care for our three sons, ages 6, 4, & 1 year old.
Her day job is taking care of the children. (grin)
My day job is in sales/marketing for an industrial distribution group.
At night I help with her marketing, and I am the backup typist. We also
type forms, like job applications and college entrance applications. Some of
those forms require the use of a typewriter, particularly multi-part forms.
Not many WP services will type forms, so you can pretty much name your price.
We are members of a business services association, a group of independent
business people working in word processing, desktop publishing, graphics, and
internet web page design. Most of the members are women operating home-based
businesses. The different specialties allow us to refer clients to other
associates for different jobs. It's better than sending our clients out to
competitors.
We also have a newsletter for people in the word processing business. We
try to present the kind of information useful to people who are just starting
out as well as for those who are in business for a while.
If you are interested in word processing or desktop publishing, you can
also lurk in the INK echo on FIDO, which specializes in WP/DTP topics.
Be seeing ya!
