No, they wouldn't. The recent Jaguar ad campaign has taught me that
there is a reason that TV ads have to run over and over and over again
in order to be effective. Why? Because nobody stays glued to the
commericals! We turn away to look at something else! I almost never
saw the beginning of a Jaguar ad - only by accident. It takes about 7
or 8 times to get to know what an ad sounds like before you know when to
look back at the TV to see the whole thing. I'm an Atari watcher and
WANT to see Atari commercials, but even I couldn't consistently see them
in their entirety. The average user will not even register the Jaguar
ad as a console ad - they might think it is an ad for Sega game until
about the 30th time they "see" it.

You are a wealthier man than I, Terry! :-)

If you are buying used, it makes no difference one way or the other.
I will buy just about anything used, provided it is cheap enough and
looks fun.

TR> They are sellig for 99.00 now and I figure theres a good reason.

Atari always lowers the price after a certain amount of time goes by
(with the notable exception being the Atari Falcon030) - This the
Jaguar's second price cut, which is normal for an Atari product this old
(2 years now).

This is patently absurd and rediculous and I cannot even believe you of
all people are saying it. I suppose next you're going to say that
Pentium's price drop shows that Intel is on its last legs? Please.

You are well aware of the price cut curve followed by all consumer
electronics - you especially because you have a vast collection that few
others here can even imagine.

I remember a while ago you balked at getting an Atari Falcon because the
price was too high and Atari must be ready to discontinue it based on
the fact the price hadn't come down. And you were right. Now, when the
Atari Jaguar + JagCD costs ($99.00+$149 = $248), you think it is doom
and gloom? Excuse me, but the Sony is $299. The same Atari system is
only $51 less! This is a smaller margin than when there was no JagCD
and everyone was comparing the base Jaguar to the $449 Panasonic 3D0!

What is so strange about Atari maintaining a slight price edge on the
current competition? Nothing, that's what. If anything, Atari needs to
cut the price on the JagCD too.

The base Jaguar is 2 years old - that is a lifetime in console years.
I suppose you'd buy one if it were still $149? Then it would cost
$149+$149 = $298, only $2 less than the equivalent Sony system? Yeah
right. You'd be moaning that Atari needs to get the price down.

Please.

Atari is doing nothing strange by finally cutting the price to meet Sony
and Sega in the arena of battle. Atar has always done that. If you
choose the think it is part of some weird conspiracy involving layed off
workers and impending PC game titles, that says something about what is
going on internally inside your head, not about what is really
happening. We know Atari is in trouble, but it has no bearing on the
price cut. You are just not making any sense with that theory.
You can't have it both ways. You can't say they're doomed because they
won't cut prices AND say they're doomed because they do cut prices.
Which is it? Sorry, you're not making any sense.
