-=[ CD_ECHO ]=-
Please keep in mind the following rules whilst reading the CD_ECHO. Failure
to follow any of these rules will lead to icepicks under fingernails,
lemon-drenched papercuts and a rather lengthy verbal thrashing from myself.
:-)
Come to think of it, you'll probably just get a note from me telling you to
knock it off.
-=[ ECHO RULES ]=-
[1]
This echo is for the discussion of Compact Discs (CD's)
of all types of music (and the music contained within the CD).
Also, for the discussion of CD players and the technical side
of making CD's. This echo is also for the discussion of Laserdiscs (LD's)
and LD players. Buying, selling and trading CDs is not allowed.
It's ok to mention that you have CDs for sale but transactions must
take place in netmail.
If I say that you have strayed off-topic, please take the
discussion to NETmail or end it ASAP!
[2]
NO FLAMING. In other words, no attacks on the other person.
This includes insinuations about the person's intelligence,
mental health etc. Calling an idea stupid is well within the
limits of the echo. Calling people who hold the idea, "stupid"
is not.
If someone flames you, please don't respond to the flame.
That often leads to flame wars which can get you thrown out
just as easily as the person who threw the first punch
(Self-defense is not a valid excuse in a battle of words).
I don't like to and don't want to throw people out of the echo.
(unless I'm in a particularly bad mood that day )
[3]
Don't do things which have the potential to jeopardize
SysOps carrying this echo.
Three notable things which can get you in trouble: ads, tape
making and bootlegs. Some phone companies are itching for an
excuse to charge SysOps business rates, and when you post an ad for
your business you're giving the companies that excuse. If
you tell someone where he can get something he's looking
for (NOT BOOTLEGS!), fine, but put your ADS in the FORSALE echoes.
As far as making tapes goes -- keep in mind, THIS IS
ILLEGAL. I don't care if everybody does it (which they
don't, by the way). I don't care if you're just making a
sampler tape for a friend who promises to listen to it and
get rid of it -- authorities won't accept that excuse so
neither can I. The only "tape making" talk allowed is if
you make a tape for YOURSELF from CD's you already OWN.
Making a cassette for your car, from CD's in your home is
A.O.K. with me... you bought the CD, you deserve to hear it
anywhere you can.
'Bootlegs' are rare live recordings of your favorite group by
an individual with a mini-tape recorder who went to a concert.
They are ILLEGAL. Discussion of what is on such a recording is
fine. Telling someone where/how to get one is not. Take it
to NETmail.
[4]
Please use your username on the board you call as your
username on this echo. I don't care if that happens to be
your real name or a handle, but I want to be able to send
you NETmail if necessary, and that's not terribly easy if
you are using a different name.
[5]
No BBS ads under any circumstances. Echo ads are allowed if
they relate to the subject of this echo. "Joe Smith" in Utah
doesn't care about a BBS carrying _Pink Floyd_ lyrics in
Maine!!! :-)
[6]
You are free to disagree with any judgment I make, and you
are free to ask me to reconsider. But if you do so, then do
the following:
[-] Use NETmail if at all possible.
[-] I need to be able to look at the message I wrote to make
a decision, so let me know the Date and Time of the
message, the Subject, and who it was addressed to (if it
wasn't to you). Message numbers vary from board to board;
they are NOT a reliable way to refer to a message, and if
I get a message saying "I disagree with what you said in
message #1043", I intend to ignore it.
[-] Be cordial about the matter. Antagonism is not a way to
win friends and influence the moderator.
[-] Abide by the decision until I specifically say that I am
overturning it. If I declare your conversation about a
certain subject off-topic and you disagree with me, don't
talk about that subject unless/until I say you can.
[7]
Here is the process for enforcement of the rule:
1. First offense: written warning to the person. I
reserve the right to send the warning in the echo or in
NETmail at my discretion.
2. Second offense: another written warning to the person.
This warning will specify what will happen to the offender
should the rule be broken again.
3. Third Offense: one MONTH removal from the echo. Crash
Netmail will be sent to the SysOp of the board asking for
him to remove your access (for those who don't know, "Crash
NETmail" means it gets sent immediately and directly). I
will (generally) only require the SysOp to remove your
posting access, but the SysOp may at his discretion remove
your reading access or even your access to other echoes.
If you are the SysOp of the board and get removed for 15
days, I am going to trust you on your honor not to post in
the echo for those fifteen days.
4. Fourth Offense: If the offense is repeated after the
month removal from the echo, you will be permanently
barred. The procedure outlined for step 3 applies here as
well.
5. I generally keep separate counts for different rules,
but reserve the right to keep one count.
6. I reserve the right to drop strikes against you if I
feel you have straightened up. I reserve the right to not
drop strikes, too. I may or may not inform you when I drop
strikes against you.
7. I can change these rules when I feel that it is necessary.
[8]
No profanity in the echo except when quoting song lyrics.
Let's all keep in mind that kiddoes read this echo too.
| [9]
There is a cameraderie in this echo that may cause confusion to new
users. It doesn't take long to figure out though. A sense of
humour, though not required, makes reading and participating here
more enjoyable.
[10]
Reread these rules again and remember them. This note will
self destruct in 10 seconds... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5...
