Ftn is a quirky network primary designed to support English. Nothing wrong with that. Along comes ftnnntp to facilitate utf-8; and combined with having dedicated echoes for specific languages, that can be fine - case in point, UTF-8 and ESP.ARGENTINA echos. Nothing wrong with that. People simply learn to use the tools and methods that suits them best.
