Only MS knows...
Somehow they thought it was nice to let a program save as word 6.0 while 
under the cover it is really a RTF file.
On the office 97 CD (and MS-bbs/Internet) there is an extra textfilter for 
word 6.0 to let it read the new word 97 format. That would solve your 
'problem'
