Are RPI (Rockwell Protocol Interface) drivers available for
Wildcat! or Qmodem?
Some modems rely on software support to enable high-speed
operation and error correction. Without this software support,
these modems only offer standard non-error-correcting transfers
at 2400 bps.
This type of software feature support is called "Rockwell
Protocol Interface", and should not be confused with more
standard modems that use the popular and very widely used
Rockwell chip set.
RPI is a cheap software-only solution that saves the
manufacturer a few cents in production cost on each unit.
Generally, you can only use the software that comes with an RPI
modem if you want to use error correction, or connect at any
speed higher than 2400 bps.
QmodemPro for DOS supports RPI modems at 2400 bps only. Higher
speeds are not supported.
