To: Frank Malcolm BL> will be hardware driven. Windows was not possible on an XT, NT BL> is not FM> I ran Windows on an XT. It's make a good story for the National Enquirer in the US, alongside "I was fucked by alien ants." FM> I *hate* vga! Why does a monitor slowly fade to dim? I mean FM> over months, not one session. Did the colours change, or did the brighteness just fall? Did the black level say the same with the white fading, or did the whole thing go blacker (was it like turning down the contrast, or the brightness; did the picture wash-out, or just go dark). There are three things that make it fade: the picture tube screen voltage (600V) or the contrast and brightness presets (12V). All three can drift, but the screen usually changes the "black" colour. Contrast and brightness are just DC voltages and you have a leaky electro or a high-value resistor wandering off (unlikely). Look for a small electro near the brightness and contrast preset pots. See which one you have to turn right up and chase the voltage down to an electro. Change it. Fixed.
