Hello Bob,
JT> That is ok for an end user, but if you do this as a mail hub,
JT> it drags things on for too long a time.
BL> It's the same problem, actually. Tossing, duping and all that should
BL> take the longest time, so you can hide the archiving on the end.
Since I've cut down on my mail base, I only keep a full message base on a few
echos, and only keep the last month on all the others, I've cut my nightly
event from 20+ minutes to about 6 minutes. The archiving bit actually takes
a bit of time though, I *could* cheat, and not have all my mail packed like
it is now, but then I would end up with a million files in my outbound instead
of 10 average.
BL> That's the beauty of Windows and event driven code. If you can
BL> keep the processing under 100mS you don't even notice it... so
BL> you tag all the long stuff onto whatever is unavoidably too
BL> long (like loading the EXE file itself).
JT> Windows makes me ill. That's why I'm back in the electronics
JT> industry. I can use my OS of choice, I don't have to worry
JT> about if I know windows or not.
BL> Windows works. If Win95, OS/2 or Unix ever becomes dominant, then
BL> I'll use that. Who cares as long as it works? It's silly to ignore the
BL> dominant force in a marketplace.
Fuck windows. Any of my apps that NEED windows will get trashed now. I
wash my hands of it all. I'm not going to let that gates character decide
what is best for me.
Yeah, it's going to take me a while to move everything over, and learing c++
might take most of my time, but at least I'll confuse myself in style. :-)
