subject: UUCP!!!

BL> I think Paul's system is the forerunner of a new way to use the
BL> Internet. In using UUCP technology, we can expand his net
BL> internationally at no cost... because the technology exists.
BL> The next step is to write software that makes it easy, and the
BL> step after that is to improve the UUCP system... software
 BL> driven.

KR> i am afraid bob that you dont know much about the internet.

Read what I wrote. It is correct.

It does not take a mental giant to understand telephones, but it
does take a total fuckwit to spend $500 a year fucking around in
Windows on the net downloading crap no one ever uses and chasing WWW
painting the screen at two miles an hour! ROFL!

KR> uucp has nothing to do with it. uucp is a part of unix, it is
KR> the smallest easiest way of transfering data between unix
 KR> systems.

  Duuuhrr...

KR> it represents a way of getting very basic internet services.

  Duuuhhhhrrr...

KR> and then onto an 8k digital leased line to cork in ireland.

You told me once before and you would not believe how impressed I am
and stunned senseless in total and admiring amazement by these
buzzwords and the idea of sending stuff to Ireland first. I'm lying...
I actually don't give a shit. The internet is just a super-telephone
line, something like two tins and a piece of string. It's all I need
to know.

KR> after all, the internet is the inter-network, the network of
KR> networks, and ip is the glue that holds them together. i am
KR> attempting to learn it because our company is releasing
KR> products into that area, it is big and complex and uucp is just
KR> one tiny peripheral corner of it.

  Durr...

KR> when you think about it uucp doesnt really give you anything
KR> that you didnt have under fido

I have thought about it. Why don't you?

What UUCP gives us, is a simple *existing* technology independent of
Fido, and the ability to move mail cheaply on the end of an ISP
account, anywhere on Earth (or Splong in your case). Paul can set up
in Sydney and establish a newsgroup that can be picked up in Adelaide
for Rod Gasson and Gaelyne who are cut off from us at present... no
Fido wankers, no rules, anything we like, hidden in gigbytes of
traffic that defeat even the NSA.

KR> if you want to get the big prize of communication independent
KR> of distance then you have to come to terms with the basic
KR> transport mechanism of the net. you can use it to send just
KR> about anything you want, but you have to use their basics, they
KR> aint going to change for you.

I trust them to know what they are doing. As I said in another
message, they can encapsulate our messages any way they like. The bit
that Paul is missing, is to tack our UUCP messages onto the more
common SLIP/PPP accounts so we can send them around independently...
but I have no doubt he will get around to it. Who cares what format
the net itself uses, or where the fuck it goes, Ireland or
Afghanistan? Unless you intend to write that sort of thing. There is
ceetainly no need to understand it to write mail replies to you.

Regards,
Bob
