123ec56799ce tech Hello Tom - --8<--cut JE>> Tom, it is a gross mistake to backup JUST the data. JE>> Logically, one should back up the entire C: HD. That way, JE>> if the C: drive should crater, using TI for the back up JE>> program one can restore programs AND data to a new HD. If JE>> one only backs up the data and t he C: drives craters then JE>> one would have to totally reload all the programs and then JE>> install the data. Lots of time consuming work! TW> Actualy one should have TWO backup systems. One to back up TW> the "Data" EVERY time before yuo shut down and the Other to TW> Image the C" drive after soemthing is installed and it TW> proves itself to be working properly. Grandfather, father, son (3 backups) has always been the recommended method. Backups 'fail' to restore and the assumption that a newly installed program is "working properly" when it is NOT can leave you in a bad situation. RE: True Image - I have Acronis installed on my newest machine and was disappointed to find that the function to restore individual files/folders is next to useless. My earlier backup software, BootitNG, has a utility that treats backup IMG files as archives where you can very easily snatch one file or entire folders from the IMG files. Acronis is "prettier" but I'm inclined to feel that BootitNG is the better software. TW> In my case the data is small enough that it still fits on a TW> Zip 100 disk. And I have the Image of my Basic Stable Boot TW> drive on the D Drive. Now of course this the Wordprocessor TW> files and the Checkbook program computer hte Wife basicly TW> uses. I don't trust Zip drives but I do own one (not installed here). TW> I play it very loose with the other Two comuters I play TW> with so I will have soemthing to Gripe About. So I've noticed. :-) > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ --- * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
