That I wouldn't know seeing I have never seen the output (backup) but I
suppose if they stick to a well known standard then it shouldn't be an
issue.  However given MicroSoft's track record on 'standards' I have

see the output myself before committing to such a scheme.

I know better.  I have had to repair too much coming from that direction. 
I don't trust them at all.  I'd rather have assurances from someone who
also knows better and also knows how to repair MS's 'mistakes'.  Your guru
sounds like he has potential wrt these issues.

Then it isn't much consequence wrt backup/restore is it?  I have no faith. 
The proof as to my lack of faith is all around and is readily obtainable on
this very issue.
