Granted there have been a goodly number of cases in which that isn't so. I still run and use a dBaseIII+ program in XP. A high percentage of programs not being usable in XP were the result of illegal calls. Your guru sounds MK>like he has potential wrt these issues. No, Wilk isn't one to do that. He doesn't write/compile programs. MK> JE> I seriously doubt that one could restore the actual programs from XP MK> JE> to MK> JE> it's successor's equivalent programs. I was under the impression that backups had two main purposes: 1. Give one the ability to recover grunged data in case of a disastrous failure. This would enable one to recover and use his programs and data if his HD totally failed - I have had to do exactly that. My HD became unusable due to a mechanical failure. I used True Image to restore ALL to a new HD. 2. A means of migrating his data to a new OS when changing OSs. I have done that also. As I said earlier, present day programs rarely can be restored to a new OS - they must be installed and then the data migrated to the new program/HD/system.. MK>Then it isn't much consequence wrt backup/restore is it? I have no faith. The MK>proof as to my lack of faith is all around and is readily obtainable on this MK>very issue. Before XP I did a complete backup to a new HD, filed the old HD as a backup and installed the newly backed up to HD as my C: drive and away I went. If it ran OK, I knew I was in tall cotton. XPs requiring validation stopped that. Jay --- þ OLXWin 1.00a þ "No God - No Peace.
