subject: Acronis True Image

CA>TW> Actualy one should have TWO backup systems. One to back up
CA>TW> the "Data" EVERY time before yuo shut down and the Other to
CA>TW> Image the C" drive after soemthing is installed and it
CA>TW> proves itself to be working properly.

CA>Grandfather, father, son (3 backups) has always been the
CA>recommended method. Backups 'fail' to restore and the
CA>assumption that a newly installed program is "working properly"
CA>when it is NOT can leave you in a bad situation.

That should apply to Both of the systems I mentioned. for the Dats th
t is done Daily you should have at least a rotating group mf media.
When I was doing the Finances for a litle church group I used a rotating
system of 5 Disks.
For the True Image "Backup" having Two copies is also a good Idea. I
recomend One on a seperate Hard drive from the Boot drive and also on a
CD/DVD it possable. In my6 own personal case it is getting less and less
Important. BUT anyone that keeps Data on their Computer that you
really care about and would be difficult ot impossable to
reconstruct a little "Better Safe then Sorry" goes a long way!!

CA>RE: True Image -

CA>I have Acronis installed on my newest machine and was
CA>disappointed to find that the function to restore individual
CA>files/folders is next to useless. My earlier backup software,
CA>BootitNG, has a utility that treats backup IMG files as
CA>archives where you can very easily snatch one file or entire
CA>folders from the IMG files. Acronis is "prettier" but I'm
CA>inclined to feel that BootitNG is the better software.

CA>TW> In my case the data is small enough that it still fits on a
CA>TW> Zip 100 disk. And I have the Image of my Basic Stable Boot
CA>TW> drive on the D Drive. Now of course this the Wordprocessor
CA>TW> files and the Checkbook program computer hte Wife basicly
CA>TW> uses.

CA>I don't trust Zip drives but I do own one (not installed here).

CA>TW> I play it very loose with the other Two comuters I play
CA>TW> with so I will have soemthing to Gripe About.

CA>So I've noticed. :-)
